WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING:
Just wanted to say thanks for such a great performance. You guys rocked! Everyone had a blast, and the term "best band ever" was thrown about multiple times.
Brooklyn-born brothel-blues, with equal parts sass and boop. Miss Ida’s stories tell of sex, love, loss and no good men.“
Miss Ida Blue is a female-led Brothel Blues group. At its core are the rich and roaring coos of Brooklyn-born Miss Ida herself. With support from members of the Boardwalk Empire orchestra, “Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks”, you’ll hear blues as a drunk, raunchy, and illicit work of art.
About: Born ‘n’ bred deep in Mill Basin, Brooklyn, the long, lanky Miss Ida snuck her way into dark dives to sing her version of what’s true. Although she’s known to easily voice-match Amy Winehouse & Ella Fitzgerald, in live performance one hears an urban mix of grinding city sass and whispered boop. Her band complements with sounds reminiscent of Atlantic City’s Boardwalk, the southern, coastal brass of New Orleans, and the gritty, hot bands of San Francisco.
Miss Ida’s group is available in a number of instrumentations. Her most popular configuration is the 8-piece orchestra, made up of Grammy Award-winning multi-instrumentalists that set the soundtrack for Nucky Thompson’s reign on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. This is not any old band. These are pros with a direct lineage to King Oliver. These are bluesmen of the famed Turk Murphy band. This is Eubie Blake’s ragtime piano protege.
Singing from a repertoire of turn-of-the-century brothel blues, with a heavy nod to soul and gospel, Miss Ida spins stories that drip with sex, love, loss and no-good men. She’s left nothing to the imagination and leaves everything on the bandstand. This gal will take you to a place that glistens with booze and sweat. It’s an explicit showing of how the blues can be audacious and adorned, loved and lusted, raunchy and rawkus.
Miss Ida’s debut record was produced by Binky Griptite of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and is due for release this year.
